How to Choose The Best Social Media Platforms for Your Business

Pure Marketing Social Media

When it comes to advertising on social media, not all platforms will be right for your business. As a small or growing organisation, it’s important to be selective with which platforms you choose to spend your time and resource on. In this Pure Marketing article, we’ll share the ideal target audience for each social media platform to help you choose the best platform for your business.

Facebook

Facebook is the most commonly used Social Media platform, and has the most diverse age range of users, with the highest usage users aged between 18 – 54. Facebook ads are also some of the most affordable ads for small businesses, which also extend into Instragram and Messenger. What makes Facebook ads even better, is that you can target your advertisements by age, gender, and so many other attributes.

Instagram

Instagram has over 1 billion users and is owned by Facebook. It is a visual platform, which requires high-quality images and videos for engagement and growth. Instagram has become a huge place to grow businesses through influencer marketing and paid advertisements, but it’s important to only commit your time and resources to Instagram if that’s where your target audience is.

For example. Instagram would be a great marketing platform for an 18- 25-year-old clothing brand. but if you’re a cybersecurity consultancy – it’s unlikely to bring you return on investment as a small or growing business.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn has over 630 million users, and is the best platform for B2B and professional sales. Although their paid advertising isn’t the most affordable, LinkedIn is a great platform to organically build your personal and business brand through networking and relationships.

Twitter

Twitter has over 300 million users monthly. Their paid advertising solutions can help you increase your brand awareness and boost engagement, although they are more expensive than Facebook ads, statistics show that their ads have more engagement. The platform is also a great place for organic content and to offer customer service, and conduct social listening.

Pinterest

Pinterest is a powerful platform to use for advertising fashion, beauty and food/drink brands. Similar to Instagram, Pinterest is known for advertising aesthetically pleasing images through carousels, videos, and shopping ads.

Snapchat

Snapchat has over 200 million users around the globe, It is the smallest social platform when it comes to size, but is popular amongst younger audiences, who can be on the platform for numerous hours per day.

This platform can be used to drive more traffic or app installs, boost engagement and raise more brand awareness. The app can be used for Creative Advertising through filters and lenses. For example, Mcdonald’s used this advertising to recruit their front-of-house staff, which are usually younger or student talent.

It’s important to consider your target audience when investing budget and resources into your Social Media Marketing. For more information or support, contact the Pure Marketing team.
